5 Tools You Need in an Auto Repair Shop

Automotive Blog

Many talented auto mechanics aspire to operate their own auto repair company. However, establishing an effective and lucrative auto repair company will require more than technical abilities. You'll need to know about the necessary auto repair equipment to have installed in your shop.

Discover five tools you need in an automotive repair shop.

1. Computer

In modern car diagnosis, a computer reads sensor signals that tell how the engine is running. The computer also gives a diagnostic code to mechanics that can inform them what is malfunctioning.

A computer allows an auto repair mechanic to diagnose problems with the vehicle and look up information on how to fix them. In addition, you can use the computer to order parts and schedule appointments for auto repairs.

2. Wrenches

You need a good set of wrenches for your automotive repair company. Wrenches come in various sizes and styles, so choose the right ones for your needs. For example, get flare nut wrenches or adjustable nuts to remove tough or large nuts. Here are other four types of wrenches that you need in your automotive repair shop:

  • Open-end wrench
  • Box end wrench
  • Combination wrench
  • Socket wrench

3. Vehicle Lift

You'll need lifts to raise the vehicle to the appropriate height for inspections and diagnostics. This equipment allows mechanics to easily access the underside of a car, making repairs and maintenance much more straightforward. Lifts are a crucial investment for your automotive repair company since they last long.

4. Floor Jack

You may need to jack the car up at least once when making an auto repair. For example, a flat tire is one of the most common forms of car trouble, so you need a reliable floor jack to lift the wheel. In addition, it allows you to safely lift a car off the ground to work on it.

Mechanics can use the floor jack as a type of step stool to change light bulbs, add fluids or wash windows. Also, they can take off lug nuts using the hydraulic floor jack.

5. Ratchets and Sockets

A ratchet allows you to turn a bolt or nut without removing the tool from the fastener. In addition, a socket fits over a bolt or nut and is used with a ratchet to turn it. The sockets come in various sizes, measured by the diameter of the bolt head or nut. For example, spark plug sockets access difficult-to-reach spark plugs.

An auto repair shop is great for regular car maintenance and repairs. Hence, the five tools listed above are essential for any automotive repair mechanic shop.
